The Hudson Square neighborhood in Manhattan is in the midst of a major revitalization. This business district and its residential communities are slated to get many wonderful improvements in the coming years, making it one of the hottest real estate locations in the city.

Expanded Renovation Plans

Recently, the Hudson Square Business Improvement District (BID) pitched a $22 million renovation plan for the community. It will include improvements such as revamped sidewalks, bicycle lanes, street lighting, trees and expanded pedestrian crossings for a better east-west corridor along Houston Street. In addition, the plans include the installation of a beautiful new sculpture on Greenwich Street.

A separately funded $40 million improvement plan is set to construct a pedestrian bridge from Spring Street over the West Side Highway to Hudson River Park. With Disney and Google building their campuses in Hudson Square, these improvements are an important part of the community’s growth plan. A $27 million Streetscape Improvement Plan was previously launched in 2012. It involved planting trees, widening some sidewalks and installing public seating. The new proposals seek to expand on these upgrades and reflect the continued growth of this thriving neighborhood.

New Hudson Square Developments

Another new addition to Hudson Square is the office tower at 555 Greenwich St. When completed, the 270,000 square-foot, 16-story office tower will connect with the adjacent 345 Hudson building to form a single, full-block complex. This modern, sustainable development was designed by COOKFOX Architects. The new building will have state-of-the-art wellness and energy-efficient sustainability features. The goal is to meet and exceed New York City’s 2030 climate targets for office buildings by more than 45 percent.
