There’s No Place Like Home!

There’s No Place Like Home!

We hope everyone is doing well and doing their best to cope with everything that’s been happening this year. For those who have been directly affected by the virus, we wish you comfort during this difficult time. And, for those working on the front lines and keeping our city running, thank you!

The Sanctuary of Home

We’ve been sheltering in place at home since March 12. It’s hard to believe that we’re almost three months into our self-quarantine and there are still so many uncertainties ahead of us. This experience has truly changed our own perception of “home” as we once knew it. It is our sanctuary in every sense of the word. At the same time, it has helped us redefine our priorities and housing needs. We know a lot of you out there are feeling the same way.

The Great Outdoors

Perhaps the biggest New York real estate trend that will come out of the COVID-19 crisis is the desire for private outdoor space. What was once a luxury now feels like a necessity as we want to get outside, breathe some fresh air and enjoy the natural elements that we typically take for granted. In fact, the top criterion in New York City online home searches right now is private outdoor space. Other features people are now prioritizing include home offices, personal gyms and art studios according to this recent New York Times article that we recommend reading.

This is probably the perfect time to bring up the fact that we are Directors of Sales for a new luxury development project at 200 East 59th Street, which is right at the intersection of Midtown and the Upper East Side. Each one of the 68 apartments in this stunning building features a wraparound outdoor terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows to help bring in maximum natural light. If you are interested in one of these apartments, please let us know.

We are also seeing increased interest in property outside the city as people look for weekend getaways and more time outdoors. Check out our feature article in Newsday, which talks about our beloved “home away from home” in Nissequogue. It is our own perfect slice of heaven to enjoy the beach, nature and some time to decompress.

Real Estate Activity

Despite working from home and being forced to operate under certain health and safety restrictions, we have actually been quite busy. We’ve brought some new listings to the market, while offers are being made and deals are still closing. As the market slowly opens back up and more restrictions are lifted, we expect the activity to keep picking up in the summer and fall seasons.

One other note we want to include is a heartfelt congratulations to our own Director of Operations, Sarah Orenstein. She is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to her new baby boy, Max!

It’s probably safe to say that all of us are realizing what’s most important in life right now. We can’t wait until we can gather with friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and clients—and when handshakes and hugs are as welcome as the summer sunshine once again.

How has this moment changed your own idea of home? We’d love to hear your thoughts. If you have New York real estate questions or you are ready to begin your home buying or selling process inside or outside of the city, contact Tom & Mickey today.
